Scott Erickson
Scott Erickson, born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, began black and white photography as a youth with a hand-me-down Argus C3 camera. The warm, rich colors of the desert have continued to resonate with him as he has expanded his artistic eye using film camera equipment ranging from 35 millimeter to 4 x 5 inches. Most recently, he has been utilizing digital capture, but still retains the fundamental photographic principles of presenting the image as it was viewed by the artist. He relies on composition and natural light, the use of minimal camera accessories such as polarizers and neutral density filters, and minor digital darkroom adjustments at printing. He lived and photographed Alaska for 14 years, and has recently relocated to Sequim, Washington.
Scott believes that one must be at the right place, at the right time. His photography captures a view of the world around us that emphasizes how light reveals the texture of nature. He especially loves the beginning and end of the day when light and shadow, shape and color merge to produce an image that one can savor as a reminder of the beauty of our world. His images are meant to serve as a visual repository of nature’s beauty where one can visit repeatedly, even as our daily lives are crowded by angry words and negative images of man’s run through history.
