"My art is an ongoing process as I experiment with techniques, color combinations and subject matter. The Olympic Peninsula's magical atmosphere energizes me." Born in the great Midwest and raised in Southern California by highly creative parents, Sky Heatherton's curiosity and energy were set in early youth. While she set herself on a life journey as a Registered Nurse, a camera, paint and brushes dictated her true compass settings. With each successive evolution of style, realism paintings took a sharp turn while visiting the California Palace of the Legion of Honor in San Francisco in 1998. "I became fascinate by the Australian Aborgiinal art. Then I mixed in the influences of post impressionist painter, Georges Seurat, the Greek mosaics and finally the beadwork of the Pacific Northwest Native Americans." says Sky. Painting with various sized dots, in wonderful patterns and colors has given Sky a unique avenue of expression. Upon moving to the Olympic Peninsula in 2008, she has refined her technique to embellishing doors, birdhouses, garden sticks, wall plaques, marine life wooden shapes and her signature SkyTrekSticks. Recently a dream of Sky's became a reality. She envisioned an art exhibition showcasing the creative expression of other artists, like herself, that have met the challenge of cancer in their lives and found art helped. With the encouragement and support of Sharon Shenar and Assured Hospice "Embracing Life through Art...the Journey Back" opened October 1, 2011. The month long exhibition presented the works and words of inspiration of 35 artists. It touched the viewing public profoundly. Sky will continue to embrace her life through the arts. "Please join me on this Journey." invites Sky.
